There is no locked feature, no watermark, no "upgrade to remove" banner on the PDF. A free account renders exactly the same invoice a $79 account does - it just renders fewer of them each month.
So the plan you pick is a question of throughput, not capability. If 100 invoices a month covers what you send, the free plan is a fine place to stay.

What happens at the ceiling.
There is no overage rate, no metered top-up, and no automatic upgrade. Renders stop at your monthly quota until it resets or you move up a plan.
The call tells you
The first render past your quota comes back as a clean, catchable error rather than a silent failure.
HTTP 429 quota_exceeded Monthly quota reached (100/100 renders on the free plan).
The quota resets
Counting is per calendar month, so on the 1st you are back to a full quota without touching anything - no renewal, no reactivation.
Move up when you need to
If you cannot wait for the reset, switch to Pro or Max in the console. The new quota applies to the same API key immediately - no re-integration.
Questions about the money.
Does the free plan expire?
No. It has no end date and no card attached, and the quota renews every calendar month for as long as the account exists.
What counts as one invoice?
One successful render of one document - invoice, receipt, statement, credit note, reminder, anything you post to the API. A render that fails because of a fault on our side is refunded to your quota automatically.
Do you charge for going over?
No. There is no overage rate. Requests past your monthly quota return 429 quota_exceeded and stop there until the month rolls over or you change plan.
Can I downgrade back to free?
Yes, from the billing portal in the console. Your account drops to the free quota at the end of the period you already paid for. Keys you already created keep working; you simply cannot create new ones until you are back under the key limit for your plan.
What happens to my API keys when I change plan?
Nothing you have to redeploy. Keys are tied to your account, not your plan, so the same rm_live_... key that ran on Free runs on Max the moment the upgrade lands. Only the number of keys you may hold and the per-minute rate change.
Do unused invoices roll over?
No. The counter is per calendar month and resets to zero on the 1st, whether you used 3 of your 100 or all of them.
Is there an annual plan or a discount for volume?
Not today - both paid plans are month to month at the price on this page. If 15,000 invoices a month is not enough, get in touch through the console and we will work out the right number with you.
How long do hosted PDF links live?
One hour on every plan, free included. They are unguessable capability URLs meant for handing to your customer or your mailer right away; if you need the file for longer, keep the bytes the API returns.

1% of all revenue - every paid plan, every month - funds carbon removal and reforestation. Deducted when your invoice is paid, not pledged at year-end.
